Tips

Hi Eli

Here's a few tips that I follow and stick to as a rule, as with the ways of ebay and salesrooms these days, celebs are getting wise to the letters they receive as to what's genuine or not

Don't write to someone just for the sake of getting their autograph, you really should only write to the people you love and admire from TV film, stage music politics etc...

Say something that you have enjoyed through their career like a tv show or film that you genuinely liked. ie I wrote of to Dame Diana Rigg just last week

I have genuinley loved Dame Diana's performances from The Avengers right through to modern film & TV such as Parting Shots & Mother Love, Ooops so much of a fan am I that I was unaware that she no longer signs Avengers Merchandise and returned my photo to me that I had enclosed unsigned.

I trawled the net looking for a more suitable unrelated picture from her work, it took me ages but I managed to find one, sent it off with a genuine apology that i was not aware of the Avengers signing clause and bingo! she signed the new picture and sent it back to me a few days ago, an excellent result from a wonderful lady.

Always say Please & Thank you and explain to them that you realise how busy they are but how much it would really mean to you if they could please take the time to sign (whatever you enclose) and return it to you in the SAE provided.

If you are going to write abroad to the USA or Canada for example, it is courtesy to obtain some International Reply Coupons from your local Post Office (if you live in the UK, as I do), these act as SAE's for abroad where the recipient takes the envelope they are sending you into their post office say in the USA and they hand over the IRC that you sent them, the USPS will ship this envelope back to you at the bottom dollar rate that it needs for this item to get back to the UK and hey presto! you can obtain autographs from all over the world, last one I obtained this way was Tyne Daly (great actress) from a Theatre in New York. these cost 60p each

Since your just starting out, don't be too disappointed if you don't even get half the ones back that you send, people are genuinley very busy and some people in the world unfortunately, are just rude (i could name a few but won't as they are no longer centre stage persons, but I did admire them),

Your Letter doesn't have to be pages long, just enough lines to get your admiration and request across, I normally would send a letter roughly A5 size.

Well That's about it, if you need anything else just holler. Here is my email address if you would like to contact me for more specific requests like website addresses or just chit chat about this fantastic hobby (it's a great feeling when something nice comes in the mail and not the god awful bills)
